Introduction

Are you an avid crochet enthusiast who absolutely loves crafting adorable stuffed animals? If so, then you know the importance of choosing the perfect yarn for your projects. My handmade crochet stuffed animals come in all colors, and it's essential to have a wide variety of shades at your disposal. In this article, we'll explore the world of yarn and discuss how to ensure you have enough colors on hand to bring your creative visions to life. So, let's dive in!

Buying Yarn: A Crafter's Delight

When it comes to buying yarn for your crochet projects, it can be an exciting adventure. Whether you visit a local craft store or explore online retailers, the options are endless. But how do you make sure you have enough colors to capture the essence of your handmade crochet stuffed animals? Let's find out!

Tip 1: Embrace the Rainbow

Hand-crafted animals don't have to stick to the traditional color palette. Instead, their charm lies in their ability to reflect nature's vivid hues. So, when buying yarn, think beyond the ordinary. Look for shades that mimic the bright blues of the sky, the lush greens of meadows, and the vibrant pinks of blooming flowers.

Tip 2: Mix and Match

Creating unique and eye-catching stuffed animals is all about the art of mixing and matching colors. Don't shy away from experimenting with different combinations. Pairing complementary shades can bring out the personality of your creations and make them truly one-of-a-kind.

Tip 3: Build Your Yarn Stash

To ensure you never run out of colors for your projects, consider building a diverse yarn stash. When you come across a beautiful shade that catches your eye, grab it! Stock up on a variety of colors so that you always have options while working on your next adorable crochet creation. See yarn Stash! Look like I need to restock in some colors.

The Ultimate Yarn Shopping Guide

Now that you know the importance of having a wide range of colors, let's dive into the ultimate yarn shopping guide for your handmade crochet stuffed animals. Here, you'll find all the essential information you need to make the right choices.

Yarn Types

Different animals require different types of yarn to capture their specific textures. Here are some popular yarn types that work well for crafting stuffed animals:

1.    Wool: Wool yarn offers excellent stitch definition and is perfect for creating fluffy animals like sheep, bunnies, or teddy bears.

2.    Cotton: Cotton yarn is ideal for crafting lightweight and breathable stuffed animals, such as tiny mice or delicate birds.

3.    Acrylic: Acrylic yarn is budget-friendly and versatile. It's a great choice for a wide range of animals, from elephants to kittens.

4.    Mohair: Mohair yarn provides a luxurious and fuzzy texture, making it perfect for creating realistic-looking animals like lions or foxes.

Color Selection

When it comes to choosing colors, the possibilities are endless. However, there are a few things to keep in mind:

1.    Contrasting Colors: Using contrasting colors can help create a visually appealing and vibrant stuffed animal.

2.    Neutral Shades: Including neutral shades like beige or gray allows you to add depth and highlight other colors in your creation.

3.    Multicolored Yarn: Experiment with multicolored yarn to achieve stunning gradient effects on your stuffed animals.

Everything is coming up Alligators

This Monday is just like all the others: I still have so many handmade projects to complete before next week's Foothills Preschool 38th Annual Holiday Craft Faire in La Mesa, CA, November 6th and 7th, 2023.

But where should I even begin? It seems like there are too many things that need doing, and not enough time in which to do them!

I guess I will just start with one project and see how it goes.

At last week's craft show, I sold two alligator stuffed animals—my newest creation. I have many ideas for new stuffed animals, but before the next show comes around, I need to get these Alligators made.

I hope that by making more of these Alligators they will continue to sell and not just float around taking up space in my home.

I have many ideas for new handmade stuffed animals, but I need to get these made before the next show. My products will sell themselves if they're high quality, and I want my customers to be satisfied with their purchases.

I need a plan of action for how to get everything done. I want to make more Alligator Stuffed Animals, but this time in different sizes as well — some larger than others so that customers can choose the best one suited for their needs. Color is important also, you know Alligators don’t just come in one color in the crafting world.

Ok I am setting my sights and I will get four Alligators done by Tuesday all in different colors that should be a good start for the week. Handmade is where its at.

Hay I'm new here!

Hi, my name is Camille Hinkle, Owner of Handmade Market and I am so excited to share with you how HMM came to be and where it is now.

HMM officially came to be January 1, 2018 when I opened my first retail store. But Wait.... before we get into that lets go back about 60 years or so.

I probably started crafting when I was a small child and needed cloths for my Barbie dolls. Well that long ago my parents didn’t have the money to purchase those cute and adorable packaged Barbie Doll Clothing. I was lucky to just have a doll. So when my Barbie needed cloths my mom said, well you will have to make them. And I did. With the help of my mom, she started to teach me the beginnings of sewing. So I guess you can say she is responsible for HMM. Love you Mom.

Well that was a long time ago and I am not going to bore you with the next 60 years. But art and crafting has been a part of me for those 60 years in one form or another. So probably in the last 15 years is when I got serious about my crafting and started to do a few craft shows. Mostly they were your church bazaars and local shows that pop up in the neighborhood.

You know, you never really know if people are going to like your stuff or not, and when you actually sell something, it gives you that feeling of WOW, maybe I have found a place for my passion.

Well over time you make your way into getting into better more established Craft Shows. Typically as the saying says you get what you pay for. Yes, these shows are more expensive to participate in but they are established and have a wonderful following. If you can make it to that level you will do just fine. Most times I can sell enough to cover my expenses and have money left over. To do what you say?  Well of course, you buy more supplies.

So for the next 12 years or so that is what I did, Craft Show after Craft Show. Loved every minute of it, you meet great crafters, you meet great customers. The whole experience is very uplifting.

Did I say uplifting, yes and you will do a lot of that, lifting that is. Putting on a show is a lot of hard work, from creating your products, to packing your car for a show, unpacking your car when you get to a show, setting up your booth. Then comes the breakdown of your booth. Packing up again and packing your car again. Did I say something about Lifting? Then you get home and you unpack your car and everything back in the house. You know 12 years of that and it gets old, but you do it because you LOVE IT.

WELL, let’s get back to where it all began in 2018 years ago, when I opened my first (did I say first, it may be my only, but who knows) retail store. But then in about 2020 we all had to face the dreaded Covid and unfortunately the Owners of the Mall required me to close my little boutique.

For me it has allowed me to work on a website, since my retail store was forced to close.  But don’t get me wrong.  I never look back; I only look toward the future as you never know what it may hold.  Since that time in 2020 I shortly was able to find a new location for my retail part of my business.  I vended in on location for almost 2 years and as you have it business come and go.  But that is ok because opportunities are always available around the corner. Currently I am vending in 3 retail location and doing well.  Not having the responsibility of your own brick and mortar store has allowed me to focus on working on my website.

I'll be back.....
